ELECTRONIC VISA

ELECTRONIC VISA

An Electronic Visa (e-Visa) is a digital authorisation that allows foreign nationals to enter South Africa for short-term purposes such as tourism, business, or transit. Instead of a physical visa sticker in the passport, the e-Visa is linked electronically to the traveler’s passport and can be applied for online through the Department of Home Affairs or approved portals. It typically has a limited validity period, often up to 90 days, and may be subject to single or multiple entries. Applicants must provide travel documents, proof of funds, and purpose of visit, and are expected to comply with South African immigration laws during their stay.

The South African E-Visa allows eligible foreign nationals to apply for a visitor’s visa online before travelling. It simplifies the process for short-term visits without the need to visit a South African mission. The E-Visa is suitable for:

Tourism: For individuals visiting South Africa for holiday or leisure.

Business Visits: For short business trips such as meetings, conferences, or negotiations.

Family or Friends Visit: For those visiting relatives or friends residing in South Africa.

The E-Visa is typically issued for up to 90 days per visit, depending on the applicant’s nationality and the purpose of travel.

Applicants must apply through the official South African E-Visa portal prior to travel.

A valid passport with at least two blank pages and 30 days’ validity beyond the intended departure date is required.

Proof of accommodation, return flight ticket, and sufficient financial means must be provided.

The visa must be used for the stated purpose only (tourism, business, or family visit).

Holders of an E-Visa may not work, study, or conduct paid activities in South Africa.

The E-Visa cannot be extended or converted to another visa type while in the country.

Entry is still subject to approval by Immigration Officers at the port of entry.

The E-Visa is valid for a single entry and only within the period indicated on the approval notice.

Once it expires, a new application must be submitted online for any future visits.

Overstaying an E-Visa may result in fines or being declared undesirable for re-entry.
