A Study Visa allows foreign nationals to live in South Africa for the purpose of pursuing full-time studies at a recognized learning institution, from primary school to tertiary education. Applicants must provide proof of admission, financial means, and medical coverage for the duration of their stay. This visa enables students to focus on their academic goals while legally residing in the country. It is typically valid for the length of the study program and may be renewed if studies continue. In some cases, students are permitted to work part-time for up to 20 hours per week during term time.

The Study Visa allows foreign nationals to study full-time at a recognized South African educational institution.

It is intended for students enrolled in:

Primary or secondary schools

Tertiary institutions (universities, colleges, and technical schools)

Exchange programs or short courses exceeding 90 days

This visa ensures that international students can legally reside in South Africa for the duration of their studies.

The Study Visa is typically issued for the full duration of the course or program, up to a maximum of one year initially, with renewals available for the remaining course period.

Extensions may be granted if the course or program continues beyond the initial visa period.

Applicants must provide proof of enrolment from a recognised South African institution.

Proof of sufficient financial means to cover tuition, living expenses, and travel is required.

Applicants under 18 may need parental or guardian consent.

Students may be allowed to work part-time during studies if authorised on the visa.

The visa does not allow full-time employment  outside approved student work conditions.

Holders must remain enrolled and make satisfactory academic progress to maintain the visa.

Overstaying or dropping out without proper notification may result in visa cancellation and affect future applications.

The visa remains valid for the duration specified on the approval letter.

Renewal or extension applications must be submitted before expiry, with updated enrollment and financial documentation.

Upon completion of studies, the student must either depart South Africa or apply for a different visa (e.g., work or business visa) if intending to stay.
